Robert Thornton is a Senior Trial Lawyer at The Crowder Law Firm, P.C., where he brings more than two decades of courtroom experience and a powerful record of success in criminal defense litigation. A dedicated Dallas criminal defense attorney, Mr. Thornton is known for his strategic trial preparation, persuasive advocacy, and steadfast commitment to protecting the rights of the accused throughout Dallas, Collin County, Denton County, and North Texas.

Before joining The Crowder Law Firm, Mr. Thornton managed a successful solo criminal defense practice for 20 years, representing clients in serious state and federal criminal cases. His extensive experience includes defending charges of sexual assault, crimes against children, DWI, drug trafficking, domestic violence, theft, and felony offenses. This independent practice honed his ability to handle every stage of criminal litigation — from investigation and plea negotiation to trial. His last trial prior to joining the firm he received a not guilty verdict on a Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child.

Mr. Thornton earned his Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was honored with the Dean’s Merit Award and participated in special studies at the University of Durham in Durham, England. He also completed a judicial clerkship with the Shelby County Alabama Public Defender’s Office, gaining valuable experience in indigent defense and trial procedure.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama, graduating in August 1996 with a major in Music (emphasis in Music Business) and a minor in Business Administration. During his undergraduate studies, he was on the Dean’s List and earned a full scholarship for music performance.
